March Madness!

Home Run by Preston Bird

OUT OF THE SNOW, AND INTO THE SUN! MARCH MADNESS 2010

The Salt Lake Sidewinders 9U team was off to an amazing start this year! We took 2nd place overall out of nearly 40 teams. But, best of all, the boys had an outstanding attitude and enjoyed being together! The Sidewinders are not only a great team, but a close knit family. We couldn't ask for more!

Sincerely,

Hailee and Jeff Moore

Here's a great letter from Coach Rob:

Hey Everyone...

What a great start to what I think is going to be a very memorable baseball season! As I was planning for this tournament knowing that it was one of the premiere baseball tournaments in Utah, and that we were going with no games under our belt and only 3 outside practices, I was going with limited expectations. As you all know, I said going in that just making the Saturday tournament would be a great success.

But we did so much more than that!

To go undefeated in a strong pool (we were 1 of only 2 pools that had 2 teams qualify for Saturday) and earn the #1 seed for Saturday is mind-boggling to me. There are a few reasons I had tempered my expectations:
· We are basically a first year team and it takes time for roles, chemistry, and an identity to be established
· A large number of our players are being asked to play positions that are new to them (with only 3 practices and no games yet....)
· Some of the teams we are playing are 2nd or 3rd year teams
· There were so many unknowns for us as a team....more than I could even start to identify...that I just had a feeling of caution. I wanted to make sure no matter the outcome our boys had a positive experience.

We emerged from the tournament as one of the dominant teams in the state. To do it as a first year squad and be this successful this early is amazing.

Thanks to each of you for your support of this baseball team. I love these boys even more now that the first battles are under our belt. We will spend a lot of hours together in a lot of different challenging situations and we will have lots of great experiences together. I am proud of what we experienced this weekend. I am proud of how these boys handled themselves and battled through some challenging situations. I am proud that they got excited when I told them that we'd be back to work on Tuesday.

Thanks for all you do and have done. It is going to be a great ride.

Rob
